Late for work

March 18th, 2005

So, I’m about 5 minutes from work, when I come upon a roadblock. I’m about 4 cars from the intersection that I usually take a right on. In the intersection are two police cars, lights flashing, officers in the middle of the road, not letting anyone move. I look around; no wrecked cars, nothing. What the hell is going on? Five minutes go by. 10 minutes. Cars are piled closely all around me. No chance of turning around. Then it hits me; I slap myself: W’s in town. I switch from CD to the local talk radio station. Sure ’nuff, Air Force One had landed at the Navy base and he’s on his way to a "town-hall" meeting at the local college. Coming down the very street I’m trying to get onto. So, another 10-15 minutes pass and then I hear the approaching motorcade. Well, it won’t be a total loss - as I pull out my camera. Luckily, it has continuous shooting, because I had a narrow point of view and, believe me, they were hauling ass (about 60 in a 45 zone):

President Bush

Larger pic here if anyone cares.

Well, I guess I can add another item to my "Been There, Done That" list:
"A US President made me 30 minutes late for work."
(No complaints though)

So this is the third time in 6 months that President Bush has been to Pensacola. The first time was to survey hurricane Ivan damage (I’ll never forget the beautiful sight of AF1 flying over, bringing me out of the state of shock I had been in the previous couple of days.) The next visit was a campaign stop. And now today. Next time many locals will probably start yawning.

One Response to “Late for work”

  1. Hurricane!

    Hurricanes Attract Presidents

What hit Pensacola more in the past year, hurricanes or presidents?
