Pray for Terri

March 18th, 2005

The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities. –George W Bush

According to Florida law, it is the spouse who has the ultimate say in the future of the incapacitated. The question we should be asking here is “Should the law dictate who has the best interest of the incapacitated in mind?” A husband who has started another family outside the marrige? No.

I wonder how this prick would feel if he stood in the shoes of Terri’s mom and one of his own (bastard) children were in Terri’s position.

…to love and to honor, in sickness and in health? or to leave to wither until a dried husk?
