Tabbrowser Preferences adds a handful of options for tab-browsing to your options panel. Some of the elements you can control include: pop-ups, typed URLs in the address bar and searches from the search bar (you can control whether they open as a new tab or new window.) And much more!

Another good extension for tab-browsing is Tab Clicking Options. I set this one to close a tab on double click.
