As the victim of two major hurricanes in ten months, I’m offended by the University of Miami’s continued use of the name Hurricanes. It seems that the NCAA could do something about that, but I guess they’re too busy banning Native American’s names and logos (banning being a subjective word - “Play the game our way or stay home.”) It seems that in their ultimate wisdom, Florida State University’s use of the name Seminoles is considered “Hostile and Abusive.” What a load of hypocritical BS. Go to their online store and check out all of the FSU gear that they make money off of. They’re not offended enough to not make a buck off of the team they’re trying to smack down. FSU has the blessing of the Seminole tribes of Florida and Oklahoma to use their name, but the liberal weenies of the NCAA must know what’s best for the Seminoles and that they can’t speak for themselves.
What’s next? Holy Cross can no longer be the Crusaders (don’t want to offend the Muslims.) South Carolina can no longer be the Gamecocks (actually, PETA already has that one covered.)
As Jeb Bush summed it up: “The folks that make these decisions need to get out more often.”
Update: Petition to NCAA ruling
Update #2: FSU: 1-0 to start the season
